The mammography technician must be capable of creating a clearly readable image which will be used by a radiologist or oncologist to make a diagnosis. Aspiring mammography technicians must attend vocational school or a community college where they earn a two-year associate's degree in radiology andor ultrasound technology or sonography. Most mammography technicians work in clinics and hospitals that have advanced imaging and ultrasound equipment. There will continue to be a need for mammography technicians but many hospitals prefer to hire individuals that have multiple specialties. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics mammography technicians earn a median annual salary of approximately $57000.
