It takes a team of workers to pave roads and put roofs on buildings. The process involves many steps one of which is the work done inside of an asphalt plant. Asphalt has many uses besides creating roads and being used as a roofing material but these two uses are the most common.
Asphalt is a substance that has a main ingredient of crude oil and it is a somewhat hazardous material to produce. An asphalt plant operator is in charge of overseeing the functions of the plant and managing the production of asphalt from the raw material stage until the finished product is loaded onto trucks for transport to where it will be ultimately be used.
Some of the main responsibilities of this profession are ensuring that the temperature of the plant remains at the correct level making sure that all safety standards are upheld so that nobody gets hurt checking the integrity of the raw materials that are used in the asphalt making process ensuring that all Federal and State laws are met and watching to make sure the loading of finished asphalt into trucks is done properly.
An asphalt plant operator has many high-level responsibilities which require top-notch mechanical skills computer knowledge and the ability to lead supervise and organize many others who work at the plant. While it is possible to work as an asphalt plant operator with a minimum of a high school diploma most operators have at least one year of advanced education or an associates degree. Additionally most asphalt plant operators must have a valid drivers license.
