Truck mechanics maintain repair and rebuild gasoline and diesel truck engines. They run diagnostic tests to determine whether engines are in good working order and they remove and replace faulty parts. They check cooling systems filters brakes and alignment to ensure the truck will operate efficiently. Truck mechanics need a minimum of a high school diploma with courses in science and mathematics as well as excellent mechanical ability. However graduation from a trade or technical school can make aspiring truck mechanicals more marketable. They must take a text every five years to maintain their certification.
